My experience using various combinations of plugins which back up websites, scan for viruses, or enable a site to be cloned or migrated left me dissatisfied with some of the general limitations, slow updates, or the sometimes iffy functioning.
The result of this dissatisfaction which led to my ongoing experimentation (WP Backup to Dropbox, Duplicator, WP Clone, Sucuri, Wordfence, etc.) is that I have continually been on the lookout for better ways to provide these services, which to me are simply essential on any new site, and keep them affordable to clients.
I’ve finally settled on one system, BackupBuddy, a premium plugin I now install on all new builds and contracted maintenance sites.
A close second was VaultPress — a great product which assesses a monthly fee to each site comparable to a hosting fee.
As a developer, BackupBuddy offers the best value for my clients.
It does the job of a handful of plugins as it combines:
— backup scheduling with a variety of options for storing your backups
— capacity to migrate sites
— malware scanning and blacklist reports
— database repair, database find/replace
— server tools
— very good reliability for all above functions
It’s not perfect, but it seems like the best of all possible solutions.
I’m thrilled to be able to confidently offer this solution to current builds and clients.
